Average Weekly Earnings

Nurses and Midwives in Australia are remunerated well for their skills and experience. Experienced Registered Nurses can earn between AU$ 22 and AU$ 30 per hour.

An example of weekly earnings that a full time Registered Nurse with 7 years experience based on the following shift: two night shifts, three day shifts (including one Sunday shift).

Cost of living in Brisbane

The cost of living in Brisbane is very reasonable. The following gives you an indication on what to expect to pay for a variety of consumables within the city. (All estimated costs are in Australian dollars).

Rental Apartments

One bedroom units for rent in the inner suburbs around Brisbane city on average start at $170 to $250 per week.

Two bedroom apartments in the inner suburbs around Brisbane range on average between $220 to $300 per week.

Groceries and Eating Out

A loaf of bread costs around $2.50 and 1 litre of milk is approximately $2.60.

Most restaurants range from $20 to $30 for a main course.

Going Out

It costs around $15 for an adult ticket to go to the cinema, and around $45 to see a national league game of football. To go to the theatre the average cost can range from $30 to $150 for an adult ticket.

Within one-hour travel time outside of Brisbane are located some of Australia’s largest and most famous theme parks. Entry to these parks cost approximately $65 for an adult ticket and $45 for a child ticket.

Motor Vehicle/Public Transport

Statements of Service (Verification of employment from previous employers)

To calculate your rate of pay at Mater Health Services, Human Resources will require copies of your Statements of Service to confirm hours of nursing experience.

All Statements of Service should be on employer’s letterhead and include:

• Employer name
• Dates of employment
• Position title
• Hours per week
• Total number of hours worked (if Part-time)
• Date of last pay rise

Fax all Statements of service to +61 7 3840 8096 and include a statutory declaration.
